Elisabeth Bailey

Elisabeth uses clay throwing skills developed over 35 years to form simple ceramic shapes as backdrops for free, swift brushwork drawings. She works with hot wax, painting directly on the newly glazed surface, then dipping pots in another colour. During the kiln firing, designs move with the shape of the form, so pot and drawing become one. Inspiration comes from animals and birds she studies, drawing them until a few brush strokes define shape and form.

Elisabeth's work can be seen at The Nolon Stacey Gallery, Masham, the Moors National Park Centre, Danby, and Sutton Bank National Park Centre, nr Thirsk.

Elisabeth has work for sale online via the Made in Yorkshire website. Visit Made In Yorkshire > shop > ceramics to find her work, or follow this link: https://madeinyorkshire.org.uk/product-category/ceramics/.

Events 2020

As a result of Covid-19 restrictions, regretfully, many of the summer events I usually attend have been cancelled. However, some shows have rescheduled and hope to take place in the autumn, if conditions permit. Potfest Scotland is now provisionally going ahead on 25-27th September and Potfest in the Pens on 30th October-1st November. I am planning to exhibit at both events; further details and updates can be found at www.potfest.co.uk.

In the meantime, I am happy to supply items by post- please get in touch with me on 01751 432173 to discuss this, if you wish. I can email you photographs of various pieces to give you more choice.

I look forward to meeting all my friends and customers again in the future. Keep safe and well.  –  Elisabeth Bailey
